Internet Mailing Lists

Here are a couple of the longest standing mailing lists about the Internet:

  • Help-Net. The Help-Net mailing list provides help with the Internet, and has a helpful cast of old-timers that can provide answers to most Internet related questions, although like all help resources they prefer if you have first tried to search for the answer yourself. You can subscribe to the list by sending the following email to LISTSERV@crcvms.unl.edu:

         subscribe help-net yourfirstname yourlastname
  • RFC-DIST. The RFC-DIST mailing list announces new Request for Comments documents.

Historical:

  • IMR. The Internet Monthly Report (IMR) is a monthly mailing list used to communicate Internet related issues to the Internet community. Archives were kept at ftp://ftp.isi.edu/in-notes/imr, and you used to be able to join the list by sending the following command in the body of an email to the address <majordomo@isi.edu>:

         subscribe imr
